Mount Pleasant Community "4th Annual"Sunflower Growing Contest
The challenge is on again this year to see who can grow the tallest sunflower in Mount Pleasant. Plant your favorite variety, or encourage the volunteer that has magically appeared in your garden.
Planting tips: Colin at Plantation recommends using "Giant Sunflowers Sunzilla".Plant in full sun. As these giants grow, they need plenty of water and nutrients. And don’t forget to stake them as needed.
Sow outdoors in mid-May when ground is workable. They may also be started indoors, but do not like to be transplanted. Use a peat pot that can be placed directly into the soil.
Seeds and prizes for the 2 tallest sunflowers grown (only one prize per household) have been generously donated by Plantation Garden Centre. Other prizes to be confirmed at a later date. Judging (measuring) is tentatively set to take place on the weekend of September 11th and 12th.
Brighten up a spot of your yard, a section of Mount Pleasant and our little corner of the world.
Contest is open to all Mount Pleasant residents. If you don't have your own seeds please call or email Sherrie or Michelle.

Movie Nights for March - June 2010 are Cancelled! See below for our new program starting fall 2010
Movie Nights - Fall 2010
In response to the minimal participation in movie nights I have invented a new plan, one which will give parents a confirmed monthly booked night out (yea!!) and give young local babysitters valuable paid experience within a safe adult supervised setting. (Great work experience)
Movie nights & Child care for kids 5yrs old and up. 6:30-9:30 every third Friday of the month (Sept 2010 to June2011) Lower Mount Pleasant Hall
Details: Children will be watched inside the lower hall by certified babysitters of legal babysitting age. Two community volunteer adults will be supervising the trained sitters. Pizza may be preordered and drinks, snacks, candy bars will be available for purchase upon parents consent. Parents are encouraged to prepay and book for the first half of the season (5 months) this consistency will allow us to pre book the correct ratio of kids to sitters. Then in December registrations for the second half will be taken. We will accept monthly drop ins, however, to insure that we have enough staff they must be registered by the 1st of the same month. If life happens and your child can not attend, you may give the spot to a friend with the same number of children that you have prepaid for. For those of you who are not familiar with the lower hall, it is the home of our Community Playgroup and is setup and safe for younger children. Movie will start at 7pm and before and after the movie the sitters will engage the kids with games, drawing reading...
Costs:
Pre booked for the 1/2 year
$18.00 for first child /$15.00 for each additional child.
Drop in
$21.00 for first child /$18.00 for each additional child. cash only (Booked by the first of the month)
Pizza
$2.00 per slice
Pop $1.00 Juice $1.50
