COMMUNITY GARDEN UPDATE - Feb 2012

Did you know the community garden will be more than a garden?  A large central piece will consist of benches, pathways and picnic tables surrounded by gorgeous potted flowering plants, trees and shrubs to serve as a gathering place.  The plan is for people to enjoy the space by going for walks, having picnics and meetings, or simply lingering in the beauty of the surroundings.  Our mood can shift and we feel better about everything in the right environment.

We all respond to beauty and even more so when we've created it ourselves by literally sowing the seeds of this lovely endeavor.  Plan to attend the next community garden meeting on Tuesday Feb. 7 at 7:00pm in the Community Hall.  Also email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it about your interest in volunteering to be a part of this creation which is scheduled for construction this coming spring. We need you!! Please consider emailing your interest in the following:

1) Becoming part of a small group whose focus will be to write grant proposals from a list of already identified sources - this would entail some hours, could be done from home and is needed immediately

2) Becoming one of two volunteers to assist at Winterfest with a community garden activity center and information booth - this would entail 2-3 hours on that evening (Feb. 25)

3) Becoming part of a group to explore and organize other fundraising possibilities between now and spring - this could be done from home and would take any number of hours as per your wish

Thanks for your support.  Connie Zerger (Community Garden Coordinator)

COMMUNITY GARDEN PROJECT UPDATE

- August 15, 2010

The Mount Pleasant Community Garden Project held an Open House on June 3rd at the North Mount Pleasant Arts Centre. Representatives of all the organizations and branches of City administration involved in the Project were present to answer residents' questions and hear any concerns. These included City of Calgary Parks Department, the Arts Centre, the Mount Pleasant Community Association, the Community Garden Resource Network, and the Community Garden Project itself. About 25 interested residents attended, not including members of the Community Garden Project. Visitors from two other community gardens (Crescent Heights and Hillhurst-Sunnyside Phase 2) came to learn from our experience. After a brief introduction to the project those in attendance had the chance to take a close look at the garden design and to stroll around the future garden site, the NW corner of the Arts Centre fields, between the Arts Centre and 5th St. All attendees were invited to provide comments in writing about the Project.
